An effective weekly ritual to stay injury-free(first person narrative) In the past I had to deal with some nagging injuries, brought on by running, which kept me away from doing it for weeks... They were overuse injuries from repeating the same movement, done over and over again, maybe with a slightly off-balance gait... and then maybe also the result of previous injuries that were not given enough healing time... (...)
While I am not saying that you should stop running I am saying that, for me, my body has welcomed the change in movement and also the strength gains that I have been making since I began to train differently and gave Crossfit a try on a weekly basis. The strength that I have gained is having a noticeable impact on my running as well because my legs are feeling much stronger with each stride.
Sometimes we just need to mix things up and try new things to refresh how we feel. Crossfit Durius has since become my second favorite place to work up a sweat - the first being... my office, the streets of Porto! Is it for everyone?
Well, CrossFit is a divisive activity – some people love it while others can’t stand it. If you enjoy the focus of the workouts, it’s likely that the total body so-called WODs will benefit your core and back strength which will help maintain posture while running. If it’s not your thing, then you won’t be worse off for sticking to the road or to the mountain trails.
One of the most effective ways I cross train is via CrossFit, but I realize stepping into a "box" can be intimidating... except when the box has such down-to-earth coaches and and nice friendly people training, those from Porto but also from other countries, who stay at the nearby Hotels! CrossFit Durius Boavista is a place where everyone is welcome!
The workouts at Crossfit Durius Boavista are completely scalable for any fitness level so there is no need to be intimidated. They will incorporate mobility work, body weight movements, core work, and light weightlifting to help you become an even better runner. Their experienced coaches will make sure you are using correct form for all movements as they guide you through a fun hour long class.
Every week will be something different! No previous CrossFit experience is necessary. If you can't perform an exercise due to an injury or lack of mobility, the coaches will help you modify the workout so you can sweat along side everyone else!
And speaking of sweat, you will sweat (aka sparkle). Maybe a lot. But you will also find yourself laughing, having fun, and feeling completely exhilarated. Chances are very good, too, that you will also see improvements in your running, which may very well lead to that elusive PR you've been chasing!
