EBAN's 2016 Congress - Sunrise running tour

5/29/2016

Start-ups and scale up

Scaleup is a term you may have bumped into somewhere. There’s one phase in many start-ups’ life when new challenges may push them to grow. This may happen early or later in these small companies' life and therefore time is not the best reference, when you're trying to explain the concept.
A focus on Scaleups developed in Europe in the last years and
the European Business Angels Network Annual Congress, held in Porto this week and themed "scale up for Europe", gathered people from all over the world to discuss and share their thoughts on this trending subject...!

Porto Running Tours is merely a micro-lo-fi-low-tech-not-yet-sustainable local business but we accepted FNABA's challenge: our task was to share a bit of Porto's history and best sights with the running enthusiasts attending the congress. And we did so, starting at 6.00AM, just before sunrise!

Thursday 26th of May was a national religious holiday in Portugal, thus the city was just peaceful and perfect for a run. Of course the quiet streets and clear sky were nice but what we truly enjoyed was the cheerful spirit of all runners, despite the fact they had to get out of bed insanely early and of having a full day of meetings ahead!

We squeezed as many kms, fun facts and stories into 1h30 as possible, giving all visitors an overview of the city and how it has developed throughout the centuries. Some gardens like 'Palácio de Cristal' and 'Virtudes' were still closed given the early hours which lead us to decide to run on the riverside and to explore some streets, buildings and iconic places in city center.

This was also a good opportunity for networking among the participants from 6 different countries, who shared an healthy morning workout, outside the formal ambience of the congress. No tie knots in sight, just sneakers and running shorts!

Awesome!
I didn't know that was taking place. I would have joined.

I am the founder of TourSnapp, of one of the startups exhibiting and pitching (and soon taking part in the MindTheBridge program in San Francisco, I see the top guys of MTB in the pics :D ).
BTW, I think the idea of Porto Running Tours is great and TourSnapp could fit because of the spontaneity one can make use of when running :D

Well, I didn't know Toursnapp till this moment but I believe the spirit is similar to what we provide in our tours, yes! Our USPs are the human contact and instantaneous adaptability(pace/time/preferences), but Toursnapp can also be a great tool, if you prefer to spend money on good Douro or Port Wine :) :) Let us know if anyone in your team returns to Porto soon, we can share some ideas for sure, while we run! Best of luck, enjoy SFrancisco!

Hi, no-no-no ;) TourSnapp is not for advertising restaurants or cafeterias it is for the highlights and the secret places of the city, can be a little alley or chapel or a building's facade. It is thought for when we tourists are wandering the city to let us surprise ourselves as well as to be informed or when, being in our way to a some city-highlight there is some remarkable place around the corner.
I find your jogging routes could fit as well in many cases. Just as when walking, TourSnapp could make you take a short deviation to see a hidden gem when you are running, no matter whether within a planned route or when just getting lost in the streets network :)

I actually plan to go back, but don't know dates yet :D
