2021's list
If you are looking for a stylish dinner or if you're in the need to impress your running partner, then you may want to skip Porto's traditional 'francesinha in a beer-house' or the bifanas @conga and make a reservation at a more exclusive place like the ones in this list.
âWe run right past the front entrance of most of them on our running tours and therefore it may help you decide which one fits you the best, based on its location and some of the information we provide!
Read on to learn more about the restaurants and chefs of the short list for a Michelin-starred memorable food experience in 2021 here in Porto (...)
In 1900, French tire manufacturers Andre and Edouard Michelin created the Michelin Guide. Their goal was to compel some of the 3,000 car owners in France to travel more and speed up their need for tire replacements. In 1926, the guide expanded to include fine dining. The Red Guide by Michelin is now "the oldest European hotel and restaurant reference guide, which awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few establishments. The acquisition or loss of a star can have dramatic effects on the success of a restaurant." source
â Here's the list of those with stars in Porto 1. ANTIQVVM
Most runners who have joined us for a Sunrise tour know this one. A dozen steps away from the Crystal Palace gardens, surrounded by luxurious green, Antiqvvm's present building is also a Museum (the 2 upper floors). Its terrace is a privileged vantage point to watch the sunset and sip on a glass of Port, just before you head inside for a genuine Portuguese gourmet experience.
Average price a la carte: 120 Eur
Weekdays - Executive menu : from 25 Eur. p.p.

Antiqvvm's chef, Vitor Matos, is not new to Michelin stardom. He achieved his first while working in Amarante, in restaurante Largo do Paco (Casa da Calcada Relais & Chateaux hotel). His knowledge and skills were undoubtedly instrumental to get Antiqvvm to the high level of service and top quality required to get into the list.
2. THE YEATMAN
Inside the most impressive 5 star Hotel of Gaia, just across the river, The Yeatman's restaurant lives up to its reputation and it was the first on this list to reach the 2 stars!! The view to Porto is simply amazing, whatever the weather. Every now and then we meet runners at this hotel for our Heart of Porto XL tour!
The Yeatman - Restaurant
Prices: 'Menu Gastronomico' is 150 Eur, excluding drinks.
3. CASA DE CHA DA BOA NOVA
This one is about 15kms North from the centre of Porto but it is definitely worth the drive - I'm sure you don't want to go in all sweaty after running all the way from Porto... do you?
With a privileged location just a few dozen meters away from Leca da Palmeira's lighthouse, the building of Casa do Cha is listed as 'National monument' since 2011, originally designed by Siza Vieira - Pritzker award '92 - and renovated in 2014.
Average price a la carte: 135 Eur
4. PEDRO LEMOS
In Foz - literally 'river mouth'- an ancient fishermen's village now a district of Porto, you can find the last of 2021's one-Michelin stars. Pedro Lemos gave it his own name and decides the menu in this secluded restaurant, lost in one of Foz' narrow old streets.
Above the restaurant, chef Pedro Lemos grows vegetables and fresh aromatic herbs that he then uses in his own gourmet creations. That has got to worth something!
Menus range from 100 to 120 Eur. New entry to Bib Gourmand: SEMEA by EUSKALDUNA
At a different level: the Bib Gourmand section ("Bib" is short for "Bibendum", the "Michelin Man") lists restaurants which deliver a high quality dining experience at reasonable prices. Open since June 2018 in rua das Flores - one of the busiest pedestrian streets of the Invicta, Semea has now earned its place in the list.
âThe Chef is Vasco Coelho and his first venture in the city was Euskalduna Estudio, a smaller scale 'laboratory' where a cohesive team helps him prepare impressive modern dishes for small groups.
If you are NOT running on a tight budget, then the list above is for you. Even if you are, maybe you'll like a one-in-a-lifetime gastronomic experience or need to organize a memorable celebration, so there you have it : these are the options to make that happen in Porto.
Always remember: you only live once ;)
